This course is geared towards senior citizens who enjoy the outdoors, nature, adventure and are looking for a sport that includes all of these, with requirements that can be adapted to differing physical abilities.
Sea kayaking offers this and much more. It does not require a person to develope a large amount of skill, nor does it take a long time to learn enough to enjoy excursions of a few hours or a couple of days.
The kayak is a stable boat, manageable and safe.
It is an ideal boat for recreation, relaxation and to help keep a person fit.
This course will initiate you into the
sport, learning and practicing what’s necessary to:
- Identify and select adequate equipment.
- Identify places and conditions to do
this sport.
- Basic safety rules.
- Execute techniques
to embark and disembark.
- Execute the
basic paddling techniques.
- Execute the basic
assisted rescue techniques.
- Perform basic rescue maneuvers with estribo.
The course lasts for one day, with a 9:00 am departure from Santiago to Aculeo Lake, where the course will take place.
The course will start with an instructive talk about the fundamentals of the sport and the equipment. After this we will begin practicing paddling and rescue techniques in the water, then finish with a relaxing paddle across the lake.
At the end of this course, the students will be able to confidently handle a sea kayak in calm waters, and deal with potential problems in these conditions.
Includes
- Transportation from the Kayak Australis
classroom to the practice place.
- Double and single kayaks,
paddles, spray skirts, life jackets and wet suits.
- Safety and rescue equipment.
- Free one year inscription in
the Kayak Australis Club.

Requirements
- Know how to swim.
- State of health compatible
with the activity.
- Between 60 and 80 years old.
Observations
- This course is ideal for families,
especially for those who are interested in sea kayaking
as a recreational activity.
- The maximum number of students
per group is 10, with one instructor for each 5 students.
