Attractions
Humboldt National Penguin Reserve
This reserve is formed
by three islands: Damas, Choros, and Chañaral
de Aceituno. Here we find a large variety of wildlife.
Standing out is the Humboldt Penguin, endemic of
the current that gives them their name and that
nest on these islands. There is also a sizable
colony of Sea Lions, Chungungos, Magellan Penguins,
Opossums, and Bottle Nosed Dolphins – which
are more frequently seen near Chañaral Island. |
The Damas Island is one of the three islands that make up
the Humboldt National Penguin Reserve, a true sanctuary for
birds and marine life, located in Chile’s small north,
whose name is due to the Humboldt Penguins that inhabit and
nest on this group of islands.
The Damas Island has beautiful white sand beaches with transparent
waters where activities such as photographic “hunting”,
scuba diving, sport fishing, swimming, non motorized water
sports, excursions, and camping can be done.
On the other hand, nature lovers can find a variety of flora
and fauna: Sea Lions, Chungungos (a type of otter), Opossums,
Magellan Penguins, Bottle Nosed Dolphins, Eagles, Pequén
(a type of burrowing owl), Red –legged Cormorants,
Guanay Cormorants, Olivaceous Cormorants, Boobies, Pelicans,
Vultures, Oystercatchers, South American Terns, and Yunco
Ducks.
Occasionally Sea Turtles, Tonina Dolphins, Albatross, Cormorants,
and Whales can be seen here as well.

spend the night in this small fishing town, from where we can see
the group of islands that make up the Humboldt Penguin Reserve,

at sunrise, after breakfast. First, we’ll paddle to the
Choros Island, where we’ll be able to see different species
of birds and marine animals. The navigation will continue to
Damas Island, the place where we will set up camp. After lunch
we’ll de a walk around the island. The rest of the afternoon
