Attractions

Cajon del Maipo
Cajon del Maipo, located one hour from Santiago, is one of the most touristy zones in the Metropolitan Region. At this place, noted for the beauty of the surrounding nature, the visitor will find innumerable tourist attractions and activities as well as quality services. In the Cajon, you can do adventure sports, ecotourism, mountaineering, etc.

Maipo River
The Maipo River is one of the main rivers in the Metropolitan Region that originates at the Maipo Volcano and empties in the Pacific Ocean 250 kilometers later. It swells two times a year, in winter because of the rains and in summer when the ice and snow melt. This class III river is ideal for river kayaking and rafting.

San Jose de Maipo
Located on the banks of the Maipo River, this small town was founded by the discovery of silver in the nearby hills. Its major attractions are its adobe and straw houses, its church and parish house – declared National Monuments, and its train station.

Come and enjoy an exciting adventure descending the Maipo River rapids by raft just 48 kms from Santiago in the Cajon del Maipo.

Kayak Australis Itinerary Itinerary

The adventure begins with the group meeting at the Parque Los Heroes in San Jose de Maipo. After this we will transfer to the Melocoton area where we will get in the river. Here the rafting guide will give instructions about the paddling and safety techniques necessary for a safe and fun ride.

Once the equipment is ready and the raft is in the water, we’ll start the descent. We’ll start with a paddling practice lead by the guide before we enter the rapids.

In general, the Maipo River is a class III river, which means that it is an intermediate level descent, which will last about 1 hour and 15 minutes, has more than 15 rapids, some of them class IV, depending on the height of the water.
